Conducting A Covington La Home Inspection Exercise

By Jennifer Myers

It is important for property owners to keep track of the condition that their houses are in at all times. The best way to do this is by commission a Covington la home inspection. The inspector will assess all the areas that are present and then provide you with a report detailing where the problems are and how they should be rectified.

Assessments should begin by checking the state of the exterior part of the residence. This area is mainly made up the chimney and the roof. Start by checking out the exteriors before proceeding to determine whether there are any problems inside the residence or not.

Confirm that all tiles are in place and that they have not started to lose their original color. Avoid climbing on to the roof when it is wet as your roof could be very slippery. It is also recommended that someone else be around to help you place the ladder into place and to ensure that it does not slide.

Determine the state of the gutters attached to the house. Gutters are easy to inspect as all one has to do is make certain they are firmly attached, and also determine whether there is any debris in them. When debris is present, it becomes hard for the rain water to drain off with ease.

Proceed to climb down. Once down, take a walk around the entire house so as to note the condition that the sidings are in. Note any cracks that could be present. In addition to cracks, you are also required to take note of any signs of bowing or bulging.

When done assessing the area around the foundation, prepare to enter the residence. Start by checking the condition that all doors facing the exteriors are in. Wooden doors tend to be affected by a condition known as weathering caused by exposure to harsh climatic conditions.

All windows must be checked. A window assessment will involve determining whether the windows have screen guards or not. You should also check their latches in order to determine whether they close properly. Remember to note down all the findings made.

Remember to inspect all the windows that are in the residence. When inspecting the windows, one is required to open and close each window. When closing, do not apply pressure. You must also confirm whether they lock as they are supposed to lock or whether there is a problem that should be rectified.

It will also be important to assess the floors and the ceiling. For the ceiling, you only need to make sure that there are no stain marks on it. Confirm that the carpet has not been affected by wear and tear. If it has, take note of your observations.

The kitchen is often the last place that is assessed. Make certain that you turn each appliance on and off to determine whether it is working or not. For those who are not comfortable performing the assessment on their own, they need to ask for help from a professional home inspector.
