Smart Homes For A Modern Age

By Jennifer Rosen

The more useful a type of technology proves to be, the more attention is devoted to further developing it. One such technology that is enjoying a golden age is smart home tech. What was just science fiction in the movies of decades past is quickly becoming reality. Many types of home technology are made with the purpose of automating everyday tasks and making life easier for the homeowner. For example, there are lighting systems available that automatically make adjustments to the lighting level during different times of day and the number of occupants in the room. This article will discuss a few of the recent trends in home technology.

Smart Windows: Nearly everybody values their personal privacy. No one wants nosy neighbors peering into their home. Usually, to avoid this, blinds would need to be drawn or curtains closed. However, homes with smart windows can change at the flip of a switch. When desired, an electrical current polarizes the window, transforming the clear glass into privacy-friendly tinted glass. Automatic sensors, which change the tint color based on the light level, ensure a well-lit home.

Smart Kitchen: Cooking is one thing that many people seem to have less and less time for these days. So it makes sense that the kitchen would be a good area to focus smart technology on. One very exciting advancement is a regulated oven. In the morning, you can place a meal inside the oven, ready to be cooked. The oven will keep it refrigerated until the designated time for it to begin cooking. You could have a hot meal waiting for you as soon as you get home.

Laundry is another household chore that people tend to sigh over. But again, smart technology can make it easier to deal with. Many new washing machines now come with steam features. Hot steam is better than liquid water at removing stains and odors and sanitizing the fabrics. Additionally, dryers with a steam cycle will make certain that your clothes are free of wrinkles when the timer goes off.

Smart Televisions: Your entertainment center has probably been the most affected by advances in the field of smart technology. New TVs often include internet connectivity and video-streaming capabilities. Devices such as Chromecast and Apple TV allow for easier access to these technologies. These devices also allow you to show on your television what you view on your phone. The new Playstation TV transforms the PS4 from a gaming console into a powerful streaming console. You can even play games in your bedroom while the Playstation itself is in an entirely different room.
