Walk In Shower Designs

By Darren Hartley

To reach the shower, there is no need to take a step up or a step down. That is what a walk in shower is all about. There is a new type of walk in shower that is becoming the talk of the town. This is the walk in shower without doors. Its primary benefit is its taking less bathroom space since there is no need for space provisions for frames or door swings.

Traditional showers can be hard to use and maintain. A doorless water containing walk in shower is exactly the opposite. It takes off the need for thresholds which add to the possibility of tripping happening to shower users. It is an absolute convenience for persons who have mobility issues. It discards the difficulty they encounter in using a confined shower.

When talking about the maintenance of a walk in shower without doors, suffice it to say that it is very easy to clean, requiring minimal care as far as its surface is concerned. Homeowners know what a chore it can be to clean a shower with glass doors, sliding or not. And when glass sliding doors get stuck or run off their glides, homeowners can only look up the sky and pray for a miracle.

Because a doorless walk in shower involves custom designing, there is a lot of work to be done in the renovation of the existing bathroom design. Current bathtubs or showers are replaced by the walk in shower which customarily is situated at a bathroom corner. Furthermore, the bathroom walls and flooring need to be restructured to hold water as the walk in shower has created an opening to the rest of the bathroom.

Water should drain easily and never puddle on the floor of a walk in shower without doors. As to the shower itself, it should be custom fabricated made of solid material or custom tiled. A sloped floor is required in the shower area to eliminate the need of a threshold.

The direction of the water from a doorless walk in shower must always be away from the bathroom lighting as well as the other bathroom fixtures. To contain the water flow, an overhead ceiling mounted shower head would be the preference over handheld showers with their tendency of spraying water all around the area.
