Type Of Heaters And Their Effectiveness

By Alex D White

What usually crosses your mind whenever someone mentions heaters? Well, it may be anything depending on what you are used to. Different kinds of heaters exist each of which function differently. Your choice of heater will greatly rely on the various heaters that you already know.

You have heard of the electric water heaters, which basically are made of a piece of wire with a high resistance that heats water when they heat although they should not come into direct contact. They use silica to make them safe from risks of electric shocks. You need to upgrade to a more energy efficient like a solar water heater type in case you have a low quality one that breaks down in the middle of a hot shower.

There is the electric heater or the electric stove heater; they convert electric energy to heat. The resistance element is the metals involved. The way heat will be distributed will depend on the model of the heater. Electric heaters are fairly safe to use and they do not cost much as well as their maintenance cost is low.

Convection heaters heat the air around them then it spreads out to the rest of the room and heats the room in that process. Infrared heaters work by heating objects directly instead of the air while heat pumps work by removing warm air from the outside and taking to a cold inside and vice-versa.

Convection heaters are a type of heaters powered by a resistor that opposes the flow of electricity. The electric energy turns into heat and then it flows through the metal heating element. Convection heaters heat energy above them directly, the air rises and spreads out into the room. Some heaters such as the forced air convection heaters usually heat air through blowing air over heated coil using a fan. This air spreads out into the room and in the process the room gets heated up.

Another common type of heaters is the radiative heaters. These use aspects of much greater temps compared to convection heaters. These heating elements are enclosed inside a protective cover for instance quartz in a bid to stop heat from getting away. This maintains the heating unit at very hot temperatures. They are good in heating objects compared to heating air. They heat your body directly when you stay close to the heater. They are cheap and excellent when utilized in areas that need short time for heating.

Heat pump heaters, use a pump to drive a liquid called a refrigerant through sets of coils. The refrigerant flows through a condenser coil inside the house. Most of the heat is transferred into the air which then heats and warms the room. It as well cools the refrigerant at the same time.

The refrigerant will get decompressed within the evaporator coil outside the house. Heat from the outside warms the refrigerant again and again it flows to the compressor. This cycle of taking air inside from outdoors and moving it inside continues until the whole house gets heated. They are cheap, efficient and do both cooling and heating of the house.
