Doing Your Own Swimming Pool Cleaning Service

By Patty Goff

Pools can cause a variety of health problems when they are left dirty and not well maintained. This is why people who can afford them build one in their yard rather than go to public ones. Often, unkempt pools hoard a lot of disgusting things besides the scary bacteria.

Your outdoor natatorium should be habitually tended. Owners can contact a swimming pool cleaning service in Philadelphia and the like, but you can do it yourself. It is sort of like the option of going to the salon to have your nails manicured or staying at home to paint them personally.

Checking the chemistry twice or thrice per week is recommended during summer. Once in the winter is enough, considering that they really are not that particularly useful during that season. Cleaning out the skimmer basket should be done weekly or as needed.

Checking your water levels as needed is crucial. The center of the tile or the skimmer is your basis. Sanitize the hair and lint pot in the pump every two weeks. Make sure the pump is turned off while doing this.

Take note of the deck chlor and inline chlorinator once per week. Inspect the flow meter and adjust according to readings. Make sure that the tablets are in your deck chlor and inline unit. Too little will promote algae growth, and you probably would not want to see those things.

Your filters are scheduled to be cleaned like visits to the dentist, which is a minimum of twice yearly. But if you find that your returns are low, the floor cleaning system is going crazy, there was a storm or heavy rain, or the water is just so bad in terms of clarity, go ahead and give them proper hygiene. Soak them in muriatic acid or trisodium phosphate. Wear protective clothing such as gloves and add acid into the water, not in the reverse order. Rinse until they are spotless, and dry them well.

For your tiles to be immaculate, scrub them when build up increases. The blades of your saltwater chlorine generator must be examined and cleaned per month. Red lights and low readings will tell you that they are in need of attention because they might have already calcified.

Shocking your swimming pool is not as necessary if you have built an ozone system. If there is none, do it at night. Have the pump running for a full day for circulation, and you will have it ready by the next day.

If there are cracks around your pool, especially between the deck and the tile, use clear silicon beads to caulk them. Never let the water migrate. Adjust the ph level with muriatic acid, and remember that temperature greatly affects its conditions. Take note of the standard chemical readings, in ranges of 7.2 to 7.8 of ph level, 80 to 120 ppm of alkalinity, 30 to 50 ppm of cyanuric acid, 250 to 450 ppm of calcium hardness, 1.0 to 1.5 ppm chlorine residual, and 0 ppm of combined chlorine. If you are reading those numbers, then your pool is crystal clear and ready for an enjoyable swim.
