Learning The Methods Of A Gopher Exterminator

By Cherry Mercer

If one is fond of growing vegetables or fruits in his backyard or in his garden, then most likely he will be dealing with a lot of problems from small furry creatures called gophers. Of course a great idea would be to immediately call up a gopher exterminator who can do away with these pesky creatures. Exterminators are experts when it comes to this field but surprisingly, a lot of their methods may be done by almost anyone.

Now water would be the very first weapon that exterminators would do because it is the safest for the gophers. Exterminators are actually trained not to kill the gophers as much as possible because they are still animals and they still actually do have the right to live. By far the easiest way to chase them out of their homes would be to flush them out with water.

If that does not work, then a lot of exterminators resort to humane traps instead. These traps are metal cage like devices that one may put on top of the mound of the gophers so that they can be trapped in it. It would help if one would use some food to try to lure the little animal out.

If the gophers still do not want to come out, then exterminators may actually use flares or smoke bombs to scare them out. This works well because the whole will be filled with smoke and will make these animals panic. When this happens, their natural instinct would be to run out.

Now as a last resort, it is actually possible that the exterminators may absolutely have to kill the gophers. Now although they only do this as a last option, sometimes they would have to resort to poison in order to get rid of these animals. The have a choice of using either a poisonous bait or poison gas depending on the situation.

The first type of poison that professionals would use would be the poison bait like strychnine where in the gophers would think it is food and would eat it. When they eat the poisonous bait, they instantly die and the exterminators can bring them away. However, one must be careful around this poison because it will also affect humans if not handled carefully.

Another known method of killing gophers would be the second type of poison which is aluminum phosphide which is a poisonous gas that can kill instantly. It is basically a poison gas that does not leave any residues which means that it is safe around humans. This method is to be used only when all of the others have failed because it is the most effective one.

Now as one can see, there are so many ways one can eliminate the whole gopher problem. Now take note that when the problem is not that bad yet, then even an average person may use any of the first three methods mentioned above. Now when the problem is already quite bad, then it is up to professional gopher exterminator to step in and try out the more drastic measures.
